Anderson Director of the UW–Madison Data Science Institute (DSI). A professor in the Department of Physics with affiliations in the Departments of Computer Sciences and Statistics\, he is dedicated to expanding interdisciplinary engagement with data science and addressing its societal impact\, particularly on marginalized communities. His vision for the DSI aligns with the Wisconsin Idea\, emphasizing community engagement and trust-building to showcase how data science can positively transform lives and the world. Cranmer’s path into data science began with his groundbreaking contributions to the discovery of the Higgs boson\, a particle essential to understanding the universe’s fundamental structure. By pioneering collaborative statistical modeling techniques\, he enabled thousands of scientists to analyze massive particle collision datasets\, leading to the landmark 2012 Higgs boson discovery.
